The Ford F-150 is already the best-selling automobile in the United States and Ford just announced the 2017 version will be even more powerful and full efficient. You read that correctly, a more powerful and fuel efficient 2017 Ford F-150.
Improvements come in the form of a redesigned 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine and new 10-speed automatic transmission. The restyled EcoBoost V6 will include two fuel injectors per cylinder for both port and direct injection, which provide 30 additional lb-ft of torque over last year’s output. This new engine will also feature auto start-stop technology in order to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, but that technology will not engage if the truck is towing or is in four-wheel drive.
While Ford has yet to release fuel economy data for the 2017 F-150, it did say the new 10-speed automatic transmission will improve the truck’s overall efficiency and acceleration. The 4WD version of the 2016 Ford F-150 with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost, yielded an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, so look for an improvement over those figures.
“The Ford truck team lives to serve our hardworking truck customers,” said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Product Development, and chief technical officer. “The powertrain is the heart of every F-150, and together our all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 10-speed transmission will give our customers better power, efficiency and confidence.”
